 Fires started by smoking materials claim over 1000 lives a year in the United States. It is the number one cause of preventable fire-related death in the home. Often times these fires claim the lives of children, family, friends and even the firefighters that respond to them. The United States Fire Administration, which is a division of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), recently kicked off a campaign in effort to curtail the number of deaths related to smoking.
